Lodds travelled to Brixham to take on a resolute Villa side. With a number of absentees Lodds found themselves 2-0 down at the interval. However, playing down the slope in the second half they still felt they were in with a chance, albeit knowing that the scorer of the next goal was going to be crucial.

Despite starting the half well, Villa scored the all important third goal. Stathers pulled a goal back when he stole in at the far post to guide the ball across the keeper and into the far corner. Although buoyed by this, Villa increased their lead, before Smallridge reduced the deficit once again. When Robey turned and beat his marker to fire in a third goal Lodds were right back in it. However despite dribbling past his marker, to everyone’s amazement the goal was ruled out for offside.
