Having narrowly lost out to promotion chasing Ilsington (2-1) in midweek, Loddiswell Reserves were keen to take all three points against close rivals Abbotskerswell Reserves.

From the first whistle Lodds showed their intent as Luke Bateman found joy on many occasion down the right flank. With less than ten minutes gone Bateman's persistence paid off when he cut the ball back to Paul Tucker, who steered his shot in from the edge of the box.

Loddiswell were dealt a major blow moments later when Tim Stathers hobbled off after a crude challenge from behind, this saw Dom Farleigh take up his place in the centre of midfield. Lodds shrugged off this disappointment and forged forward, breaking the Abbots back line on numerous occasions. On another day Andy Edmonds may have netted a hat-trick by half-time but had to be content on just the one.

At the other end the back four of Rowe, Elliott, Mark Edmonds and Adam Tapper, were in the main dealing with any attack Abbots could muster, and indeed Jonathan Wig, in goal for the absent Teague, was rarely tested. However, just before half time Abbots scored out of the blue when their central midfielder fired in a first time shot from range to make 2-1 at the break.

The second half continued as the first, with Lodds running in behind Abbots back four only to see chances from Edmonds, Guard and Williams go agonisingly close. Eventually the third goal came when Guard latched on to the ball to fire home what proved to be the last goal of the game.

Joe Elliott came on for Williams as Lodds looked to secure the points but despite a little flurry of action in the Greens penalty box Abbots never really threatened to upset a good day for the club.
