Loddiswell Reserves: Teague, Rowe, A.Tapper, Luscombe, Hurrell, T.Stathers, Tucker, Reserve team manager Chris Guard was doubly happy with this result. Firstly because it ended a run of four straight defeats and secondly because he was on target twice for the greens. Guard’s second proved to be the winner when he connected with full back Adam Tapper’s pass with a sliding lunge to finish an action packed first half. Forward Andy Edmonds had laced a dipping shot from twenty yards to open the scoring before Town levelled fortuitously from a deflection. To be fair to the visitors they deserved their luck after striking the post and being denied by a fabulous save by Loddiswell goal keeper Richard Teague. Brixham went ahead on the half hour mark - a tidy finish from close range. Tim Stathers went close for Lodds with a venomous strike before heading Edmond’s corner over the bar but it was the pace of Luke Bateman that finally provided Loddiswell’s breakthrough when he was upended in the box. Edmonds’ penalty was well saved but Guard was ‘Johnny on the spot’ with a poacher’s goal to make it two apiece. With Loddiswell enjoying the lion’s share of the possession Guard stole in for his brace to complete the afternoon’s scoring. There was no room for complacency in the second half after the previous weekend’s lacklustre display at Stoke Gabriel. Half time substitute Matty Price was too hot to handle as Lodds bossed the proceedings. Price, Stathers and Edmonds all missed clear cut chances while Town dug deep to nick a point but were unable to get the better of centre halves Matt Luscombe and Dan Hurrell. Next up for Loddiswell Reserves is a home tie against Buckland Athletic 3rds in the semi-finals of the Fred Hewings Cup. |
