Denbury Athletic 4 Loddiswell Reserves 2
Saturday 27th February 2010 - SDL Division 4

Having recorded one of the team's finest ever results the previous week, when they knocked out Division One side Upton Reserves in the quarter finals of the Fred Hewings, Lodds should have got back to League action full of confidence, however, injuries and unavailabilty saw a reshuffled side take to the field against Division Four leaders Denbury Athletic.

This unsettled the team and in particular the back four lacked the cohesion of recent games, and it was this indecision that lead to Denbury's first goal. Once again however, when Lodds played the ball out to the flanks Rob Tapper and in particular Andy Edmonds, stretched the Denbury back line, and on a number occasions chances were created but not taken.

Although Denbury weren't creating many chances to threaten Stacey in goal, they were constantly dangerous from set pieces, and it was from yet another dead ball situation that they scored their second.

Lodds went in at half-time knowing that with a little more effort a point, or even better, could be taken from the game. Taking this on board Lodds ran the first twenty minutes of the second half. Chances fell to Edmonds, Smallridge and Farleigh but the rub of the green was not with the away side, as Denbury lived a charmed life.

However, the break through finally came when a cross from Edmonds on the left found it's way through the pack of defenders to find Dom Farleigh who made no mistake in scoring Loddiswell's first.

Lodds were now well and truely back in the game and Denbury, seemingly, had no response. This was all to change however, when a cruel stroke of luck saw the visitors score Denbury's third goal - a cross from the left was diverted past Stacey by the outstretched leg of Hurrell.

Buoyed by their fortune Denbury seized on Loddiswell's frustration and scored their fourth moments later.
Once Lodds had cleared their heads of the five minute madness, they started to play the ball around again and on a sticky surface did well to create their second of the game, which was taken well by Chris Smallridge. Subsititues Chris Guard, Mike Williams and Adam Tapper, the latter making his debut for the club, were brought on, but despite a few half chances the game finished 2-4.

The Reserves will be hoping to welcome back their missing players for tomorrow, as they take on Kingskerswell & Chelston 3rds at home, 3pm kick-off.
